Alert | For as much as everyone says the housing market has slowed, my neighborhood in Tortosa is non stop. It seems more houses are being built now than during the first part of the year. Good to see this place looking more and more like a neighborhood.

Alert | | now if they could just finish that tower before 2025, and leave the fountain on during the weekends and evenings. Anybody hear anything else on the grocery store going in Tortosa? Last I heard it was Food City in the land where the FD is. Dont care what store it is, just want something closer than Fry's.

Alert | I notice too that the Barcelona homes are going up, but there are still plenty of lots to be sold. Drove around the community and noticed that the Homelife communities seem to be pretty much completed, from what I could see. Elite at Valencia didn't seem to be moving all that fast, but it's been awhile since I drove over that way.
Base prices all over have plumetted, not just Tortosa or Maricopa. Friends of ours, just bought a home out in Verrado (Buckeye) and are paying $215K, which, isn't all that bad, considering just a couple of years ago, the cheapest house in Verrado when we looked was over $300K. Another friend bought a home in Vistancia and they do, a little over $200, which, again, was about $300K when we looked a couple of years ago.
At this point, rather have the prices go down and have people move in and get the population of this city up than have the prices too high where the population is stalled. They have to do something to get people to move here. Heck, most of my co-workers never even heard of Maricopa until I moved here!

Alert | | I agree! The more people that want to move out here the better that is for your home prices! BTW Safeway owns that land where the FD is right now. I don't think a Food City will go there since Basha's owns Food City.

Alert | | the base prices have been the same since December. Atleast they have been in Elite - Marbella. Nothing really has changed, except more houses at once going up now than earlier in the year. I hope it continues. Im watching Rancho Mirage to see how fast that gets going. With Rancho Mirage, a nearly complete Tortosa, and more to come on the South and East of Tortosa, we shouldnt have to wait too long for more services.

Alert | | utah....how certain are you that the base prices havent dropped at elite marbella...i know they did bigtime at barcelona...and i think they did over at valencia as well.....in fact it was because of that huge drop that we almost backed out of our contract back in dec early january | | *formerly known as inyrfce2* Senior Member Posts: 797 Joined: Dec 2006

Alert | | I was wondering the same thing, because one of the deli workers in Bashas told me that Food City was coming and our cable guy when he installed our cable in Feb said that Bashas owned the land. Personally, would love to see a Safeway move in before Food City.

Alert | | Wow I haven't heard that. But I know that it would make life easier if there was one there. I'm sure that some day there will be one closer. | | Senior Member Posts: 4625 Joined: Feb 2006

Alert | I sincerely hope a grocery store does not come to that corner. I was told some officebuidings/small retail on the corner and a church by the fd.
I'm all for a grocery store on honeycutt somewhere between here and there, but not right on the other side of my window!

Alert | I don't think that corner is big enough for a full grocery store and parking. I noticed on the way home yesterday the area around the rock place (Wildcat something) is up for sale but wasn't able to see what it's zoned for. That would probably be a good place for a store,it's 7.5 acres.
I also noticed that a couple houses in Rancho Mirage are completed or very close to it, so something should be happening out here soonish. | | The red head is BACK!! (and still mouthy)

Alert | We went to see the model homes next to Barcelona and the sales person stated that a Safeway was going to be built next to the sniper tower. We bought in Barcelona but still like to see other communities and compare. <img src='http://www.85239.com/desktopmodules/ntforums/images/emoticons/smile.gif' height='20' width='20' border='0' title='Smile' align='absmiddle'>
Seems like everyone is saying something different regarding what is going to happen in the lot.

I heard this from one of the developers of Tortosa. I am pretty sure Safeway owns the land, but they do not know if they want to put a supermarket there or not.

I kept a close eye on it because we signed our contract in November at the higher base price. Then in December they lowered all the base prices by about 7k per model. I told them I would walk away from my earnest money if I wasnt given the cheaper price by closing. They gave me the better deal and here we are. I go to the website from time to time to see what the spec homes in my neighborhood are going for. Also to check base prices. I thought maybe with all the action that they may have lowered again, but no, they still havnt changed any prices. I doubt they will unless a housing boom occurs.
