Alert | Seems like several of our local slave owners have decided that their own personal preference supercedes the will of the people. Here's the link:
http://www.azcentral.com/news/articles/0713sanctions-opposition0713.html
Sorry about the cut and paste link but I am not sure how to put an active html link in the new forum and I am too mad to learn right now.
McDonalds in Phoenix knowingly employs more illegals than I can count. I can see why they're upset. And the builder has an obvious stake. I am not sure what's up with Coangelo.
Then to think they are going to use their influence against the lawmakers that put this bill together? Let's run these guys out of town. | | Stupid should hurt!

Alert | | This is just round 1 of the b.s. to make sure this bill never sees the light of day. After this round, you'll get the judges. Perfect political cover for Janet.

Alert | I agree with some of the points they are bringing up...
• Enforcing immigration is a federal, not a state, responsibility
• Can pull business licenses without due process of law.
• Could punish employers for workers hired in other states.
• The state will have to investigate every complaint of illegal workers that is not "frivolous," which could drain law enforcement resources and costs ARIZONA TAXPAYERS even more money.
I agree we need to do something about the problem.. I also agree we need to hammer down on employers.. BUT.. we need to have a national FEDERAL law that will work, not a state knee-jerk "see I did something" or "at least we're trying" garbage law..
I don't think it's the responsibility of JUST the people in this state to curb the illegal immigration issue.. It needs to begin at the federal level.. Why do the citizens of just AZ, CA and TX have to bear the costs of NATIONAL problem??

Alert | You bring up some good points, slinger. I think it has been pretty much known all along that the law had serious flaws. You can't pull someone's business license without due process - and you can't put hundreds of people out of work based upon BS claims. I think the law is like throwing a big rock in the pond - they're trying to get some attention and communicate the frustration of the people. We don't want illegals here. We don't want to pay for their health care, their uncontrolled spawning of children, and we don't want the impact on our culture. We just flat-out don't want it and we have the right not to want it.
You're right that the feds need to be running border enforcement, not the state. They're not. They're too tied up in partisan politics to do anything the American people want, as is evidenced by the amnesty bill. So, this is something to let Washington know how Arizona feels. Its the first time in a long time that I have been proud of our legislature.
Here's what pisses me off about this group of "business people": They want to go after the representatives who supported this bill, particularly those who authored it. They want to castrate the Arizona legislature. Those guys were doing what all of us have been asking them to do: something to address the problem and get it worked on.
Let's support the legislature, and I wish there were a way to do an effective boycott on these businesses. Next time someone asks me, "Would jew want the combo meal?" I am going to puke all over the speaker box. | | Stupid should hurt!

Alert | | there is an effective way to boycott those businesses....just dont shop there....trust me...i worked at one of his stores for awhile that had a terrible location....and we just never got business no matter how well the store was run....it ended up going out of business....we can do the same thing to his other stores...just dont eat there.....and as far as this being a federal issue....heck yes it is to borrow a term from napoleon dynamite.....and all they need to add to the bill is due process to get their license yanked......but dont make it a huge drawn out process like trying to execute someone in this country....and these businesses will start attracting american labor at higher pay....kinda like IN N OUT does...and wait a minute...they can speak english when youre trying to order...what a novel idea....if ICE needed some businesses to raid...they are raising their hands showing them who they are right now.... | | *formerly known as inyrfce2* Senior Member Posts: 797 Joined: Dec 2006

Alert | | I got a better idea. Hire an illegal, your taxes go up a point for each convicted count. Most businesses run at about a 15% pre-tax margin. It won't take long for them to be servants of the federal government. At least all that tax they pay can help offset the cost of illegal immigration. | | Stupid should hurt!

Alert | That is a great idea DD. Raise taxes, and they are out of business.
I agree with is a Federal problem, but at some point, (right now I believe) everyone starts to realize that Washington DC is corrupt to the point that they don't care what the majority of Americans want. Just look at the Immigration bill.
I salute Arizona for trying to do what they can to stop this problem and be an example for the rest of the country. Many other states have been working on this problem, however, leave it to the courts and the ACLU and the majority of voters gets over ruled almost every time. | | Welfare's purpose should be to eliminate, as far as possible, the need for its own existence.

Alert | If the Federal government refuses to do anything, can't Janet sue them to recoup some of the money for law enforcement, hospitals, education etc?? I'm not a sue happy person but my God, what's it going to take to get ANYTHING done.
