Alert | Come on everyone, we can ALL think alike on this topic! Let's make something positive happen for Maricopa. Put your fingers to good use and call.
If you hate 347, and want to see change, you can make a difference...
Contact Arizona State Transportation Board, Representative Delbert Householder and tell him what you think about 347, how many deaths there has been, and when is he going to do something about it, along with your other thoughts.
Call him - 602-712-7550
Be nice and state your opinion clearly and politely.
And lastly, pass the word and telephone number. Make an impact
You have nothing to lose and everything to gain.

Alert | | Are there that many more deaths on 347 than any other major highway in AZ? I think the Beeline Hwy is far worse than 347... | | Just the good ol' boys, Never meanin' no harm, Beats all you've ever saw, been in trouble with the law since the day they was born.
Straight'nin' the curve, Flat'nin' the hills. Someday the moutain might get 'em, but the law never will.
Makin' their way, The only way they know how, That's just a little bit more than the law will allow.
Just good ol' boys, Wouldn't change if they could, Fightin' the system like a true modern day Robin Hood.

No there aren't. There is just a lot of crying about how bad it is when in reality it is no worse than other highways around.

I think you're absolutely right. Not only that, but I'm curious what anyone can "do" about 347 to change it. The only things I can think of are cable barriers, grade separation at each intersection (as opposed to traffic lights, which seems to be the current version of someone's great idea), and maybe some mass transit running down the median. But all of those would require Gila River's approval...and they're not about to lift a finger for anyone else.

I am sure a few phone calls will convince them to put in a 3rd lane.

Alert | If you can't make the call, I don't want to see any of you complaining. Take some action, if it doesn't work, then so be it, if it does work for some good, awesome.
But instead of just complaining, do something.

Alert | It should be easy to convince him something needs to be done soon.
I don't think there are many 4-lane divided highways in Arizona (other than controlled access) that have traffic counts of 50,000 or more vehicles daily like the 347!

I am not complaining. What do you want him to do or expect him to do that is my question. What are you telling him to convince him something needs to be done and what is his response? I am all for expanding the 347 but there needs to be the right kind of pressure applied.

Pardon my french but why are they such dicks about the 347? It is basically wasteland and already used by a freeway. It is not like people want to encroach on their land and take away a valuable piece of property.

Good point!! The government needs to realize this and step in and override them. | | They are who we thought they were!

</div> Here's a couple of things I heard. Whether they are factual I don't know.
First, that it isn't an easy process getting all the owners of the land (thousands of heirs of many original owners) to agree to sell the land.
Second, that the tribe is still mad about the raw deal they got in the Cardinal's Stadium site selection fiasco a few years ago.
The story goes that the GRIC was invited to bid on the project and spent over 1 million dollars preparing their proposal and bid. It was ultimately selected as the best location and also their bid was the lowest.
Then politics stepped in! It was ruled that a project of this nature couldn't be built on Indian land and their bid was eliminated from the competition.
If this is true,"White-eyes speak with forked tongue" pretty well sums it up!

Alert | | They also got burned on a 48th Street connection with Phoenix. Come to think of it, we got burned too, since that would have added another route to the Valley. | | Joined: Jul 2005

Alert | | So no one read the newspaper this week I am guessing. Dont even waste your breath. They are not going to do anything. They only allocated $400,000 for two traffic lights and thats it, no more money. They dont have any other plans for the 347 until 2012. I cant remember the exact number but they said to make it a 6 lane highway like everyone wants its going to be a a lot of freakin money, the number actually sounded way to high to me and my husband. Dont know what is going on there. But anyways, they are not going to do crap. Yes, it should be widened, yes we should have some sort of barrier but honestly there will still be deaths. People will continue to do 90+, swerve in and out of traffic and act like complete idiot just to make their drive 5 minutes quicker.

the land belongs to the GRIC, no other government has any jurisdiction over it whatsoever. and while expanding the highway would not be taking away any of their land, by making access to the ak chin casino easier and more convienent, it would potentially be taking revenue away from GRIC's 2 casinos right thewre off of I-10. why would they want to do that???

why on earth would they put a nice free flowing freeway to a competitors casino? they want it as difficult as possible to get to harrahs. make it not worth the drive, then people will stop at the gils river casinos instead of driving down here.
