Upon going to the doctor the other day and finding out that the soreness felt in the hip is caused by an old rollerblading accident was ciatic bruising got me thinking about how to cope, mentally, with repetitave motions like lifting. How could I intensly work out without injury. Wieght lifting, using heavy weights, to optimize top physical form is now out of the question from what the doctor said. I was wondering if anyone would enlighten me on this subject. Had an injury that is irrepairable and how did you or do you cope with this, in relation to working out? Did you change routines to bypass the pain created by the injury?

I had what I believe was a torn ACL. Before the injury, I would run 2 miles a day, go to the gym, swim, soccer.etc. I injured it while I was playing flag football. There was no contact, my leg just gave out when I went to turn. It bothered me for sometime. Sometimes it was good, but others it would give out again. I figured it was do to too much activity and my runs were on pavement.

I am able to do leg presses at the gym, but with much less weight. I don't run on pavement when I can help it. The rest of the activities I am able to do. I don't feel any pain or strain. I never went to the doctor. I just rested and exercised when I could. The one thing I could always do was the stair climber.

My injury first happened over a year ago. It took a few months to subside. It has been a few months since I felt any discomfort.

My answer WAS "NO" to Q#5 and Q#1.

Unfortunatley I am hualin' tale with the rest of the early risers down the 347 by then or I would maybe say yes. I was wondering, without starting another thread, if there is still Tai Chi available here in Copa?

Leon - I don't understand why you would not visit a Dr. if you thought you had actually torn something. You are talking about what could possibly be a lifelong injury without treatment. Unless, of course, you are without insurance...then I understand.

My decision didn't have anything to do with having insurance or not.

I decided that it was caused by over activity and it was my sign to slow down. I felt(feel) the best remedy is with diet and PROPER exercise.

I do the things I want do to now. I just don't do as much on the leg press. Although I do believe resistance training does help,I just do it in another fashion; the stair climber at the gym or go up and down stairs at home.

Besides, what would the doctor do? Tell me I tore something and recommend surgery and medications? Then recommend a rehab program with proper exercise and diet?

I'm not a big fan of medications. I believe they do more harm than good. I believe in allowing the body to heal itself so surgery was out.

So that left me with proper diet and exercise. I'm the only one that can do that for myself.
