Alert | This will be our first Halloween in Copa..back east they stopped allowing the children to go door to door and the schools provided activities instead...
Do the children go out to trick or treat here in the Copa and if they do... is right after school or around dinner time? I don't want to stock up on candy and then end up eating it all myself! LOL

Alert | | Not sure what your neighborhood will be like but here in Desert Cedars last year we gave aways approximately 50-60 made up bags of candy. They started just as dust was hitting and I finally turned everything off and parked the cars back in the driveway around 9ish. It was a great night. And we're in the process of adding more!!! | | Senior Member Posts: 4625 Joined: Feb 2006

Alert | we only got about 15 kids in cobblestone (near the moonlight models). After I turned my light off at 9pm, the doorbell still rang (it was high school-age kids w/o costumes), and I didn't open the door. I bought about 10 bags of candy too. Way too much! And for sure I ate too much! | | If you can't spot the loser, it might be you

Alert | Schools / HOAs / Block Parties
To send your child from door to door begging for candy is stupid and dangerous.

Alert | It's not begging it's trick or treating. Growing up some of the best memories was of Halloween. As for being dangerous as parents you just need to go through what they get and take out anything that looks suspicious.
Growing up as a kid and not being able to go trick and treating just wouldn't be the same. | | Senior Member Posts: 4625 Joined: Feb 2006

Alert | My kids still get excited about trick or treating and they are 12 and 13. Dad always goes with them. I would never let kids go out alone no matter how old they are. We are in AC and we had a decent amount of kids from 5:30ish to about 8:30ish. I also don't care if older kids come but they have to be dressed up, you're right it's not begging it's trick or treating.
Have a fun safe time. | | | |

(It is a bout the experience)... unfortunaetly I don't trust anyone nowdays cause well you never know...so, she collected her candy and then I gave her a little bit of chocolate that I had bought when we got home..... she had a blast and didn't know the difference. I will do the same thing this year too.

Alert | The Fry's shopping center had some trick or treating and a costume contest last year. It was pretty fun, and the businesses handed out candy. After than we came and trick or treated around the block that we live on. You'd probably be fine with 2-3 bags. If you run out, just turn off your light.

The kids like it cause we were giving out glow stick necklaces so that people could see them. They didn't realize it was for safety. They just thought that it was cool.
Yeah, you might get egged........kids gotta get candy. I know that I hated it when I was a kid. LOL | | Senior Member Posts: 4625 Joined: Feb 2006

That's sad that kids can't go trick or treating door to door, back east. | | "Everything for everyone and nothing for ourselves"

Alert | Last year we took my then 2 year old trick or treating for the first time. We went just at dusk and to about 6 house around our block before going home to hand out candy. I plan on doing that again this year.
Also we got a fair number of kids that showed up. Not a whole lot but enough for about 2 or 3 bags worth.

Alert | what bugs me is the older kids that show up in no costume....the parents with infants that you KNOW aren't eating candy...or the 18 y/o's that shouldn't even be there.... haha too funny some of the people thathave showed up on our door. We had a teen try to jack a decoration one year cause he thought we were sleeping. I scared the crap out of him! hahaha | | Ppppppbbbbbbssssssssssttttttttt!

Alert | Yea I cant stand the kids in no costumes either (because lets face it they are usually older kids who are proboly way past trick or treating anyways) My 5 and 10yr old will be going this year, we went to different spots all over in desert cedars, alterra, maricopa meadows and RED. Our favorite was the nice block party in MM, all the neighbors were at one house and had a bucket full of candy while they sat out and chatted etc. I thought it was a nice way to get to know neighbors anyways and mentioned to my husband I would like to do that one year. All in all we didnt run into a single rude person and the kids costumes were great We walk with our kids and usually park somewhere and walk them around the neighborhood and I always make sure they say thank you and are polite (I hate the GIMME CANDY)
I remember one year in mesa, I had my son the 28th of october and got home the day before I wasnt feeling all too hot and I had all my lights off as not to confuse trick or treaters and there was no cars in the driveway. Well because I didnt answer my door the little brats flipped my breakers off, I called the police because it scared the crap out of me because as they did it I was leaving my bedroom and thought someone was in my house!
Moral of the story to those of you who let thier children wonder around on halloween. Please enforce some manners with them I went to one house in Alterra last year and watched as 1 kid took the whole big bowl of candy a family left out for trick or treaters and dumped it right in his bag. He wasnt much older than my then 9yr old and no parent in site! | | Jody
