Alert | Why do all the Pecan trees around Glennwilde look so bad? If you drive around the outskirts of town you can see some beautiful pecan trees on the farms.
Anyone have any idea why ours look sickly?

Alert | They got caught in the freeze during the past winter and it killed off the end of the branches.
A week or so ago the dead portions were cut off on Honeycutt, they should grow back to their full glory in a year or two?

Alert | They were and barely remain the backbone of trees of Maricopa....beautiful and majestic...I was taken a back somewhat when they trimmed them out ( I have to remind myself a southwest trim does not compare to a east coast trim... many more days of sun)
b.b. they already are filling in...I can only anticipate full glory.... | | ANYONE HOME? Residential Yard Clean-ups and Maintenance for more info go to the Business Section under Landscaping-Maintenance Click Here for our website.

I haven't been by the park lately but from far away they still look bad. Do you know if these are different species than the Pecan trees on the farms around here? The trees on the farms look so good!

Alert | | Most likely the ones you see on the farms have not been recently trimmed...While I must admit I was alarmed at the severe trimming that was done to the ones along side Glennwilde...I have noticed the ones closer north to Porter are healthier looking then the lower ones...as BB said we will have to wait....coming from the east coast ANY mature tree out here is comforting even if its a bit bare! | | ANYONE HOME? Alert | I wish they would have left more of them, I think it would have made Glennwilde look much nicer to have more of them remaining (the land was all a pecan grove right?).
Thanks, Higgs | | Liberalism and capitalism address themselves to the cool, well-balanced mind. They proceed by strict logic, eliminating any appeal to the emotions. Alert | The pecan trees look bad because when the construction is done, 50% or more of the roots of these trees are destroyed by trenching and earth moving. A tree cannot survive with a full crown and 50% root loss, so the trees are responding with ~50% crown dieback (the roots balance the crown area in a healthy tree).
The problem is, as the branches die back, they become a haven for fungi and insects that could kill the remainder of the crown.
The trees need a thorough, harsh pruning if they are going to make it.

Alert | Sapo, Do you think they are pruning the trees correctly. Any chance these trees, in your opinion, will survive?
Thanks | | | |
