Santa Rosa Bridge to get underway.
|
Maricopa, Ariz. (June 3, 2008) - At tonight's City Council meeting, held at 7:00 p.m. at Global Water Center, the Council voted unanimously to award a contract to DBA Construction in the amount of $2,444,489.80 to construct a bridge over the Santa Rosa Wash on Honeycutt Road.
The bridge will be four lanes wide, include pedestrian sidewalks and is ADA compliant. Construction on the bridge is expected to begin in early July with an estimated completion date in January 2009.
"It is anticipated that Honeycutt Road will remain open during bridge development," stated Development Services Director Brent Billingsley. "The only exception would be a short closure for the construction of the temporary bypass road."
This will be the City's first major construction project. The bridge was originally stipulated to the Tortosa development, but in order to ensure citizen safety and move the completion date forward the City took over the project.
Funding is $1 million from transportation DIF, $750,000 from Pinal County half-cent road tax and the remaining $750,000 is from the general fund capital reserve.

Alert | | That’s great. Does anyone know if they plan to make the entrance to Honeycutt (east) from the 347/JWP bigger as well? | | "Don't mistake lack of talent for genius"

what do you think it would cost?
Materials are expensive, engineering is expensive, construction is expensive, insurance is expensive and so on. Infrastructure is extremely expensive to build. | | Follow your bliss. Happiness is a conscious decision

Alert | well, i finally broke the news to my daughter that she is no longer going to have her roller coaster ride everyday on the way to preschool.
in her cutest 3 1/2 year old voice she says, "you adults take away all of my fun!" i guess her unhappiness about the situation is a small price to pay for a safer road! | | this time i want a smart president!

LOL. My 3 1/2 yr old son does the same thing. edit says "who oa oa oa oaaaaaaa". I think he even put his hands up. He makes his big brother participate, too. We go thru there just to hear him.
Oh well, the bridge will be nice. He'll find something new. | | My answer is "NO" to Q#5 and Q#1.

Doesn't this mean that Tortosa should be paying for this, or at least paying some of the cost? I am all for the bridge- its long overdue with the amount of traffic there, but I think Tortosa should be chipping in. | | Welfare's purpose should be to eliminate, as far as possible, the need for its own existence.

Alert | | They should be all we will hear is how they aren't selling and have no money for it. So what was the original agreement that Tortosa build it in 2010 or what? Since that community has been out there awhile yet still no bridge. | | Power tends to corrupt and absolute power corrupts absolutely. ~Lord Acton

Alert | | They should at least pay the city back when they reach whatever threshold they had setup to build the bridge. | | "Knowledge is often mistaken for intelligence. This is like mistaking a cup of milk for a cow." -- Unknown

Alert | | Agreed. Why are my taxes going to pay for something that was already agreed to be paid for by someone else. At least that is my thoughts. Alert | I can't imagine the community of Tortosa was supposed to pay for the bridge. There are numerous communities East of the wash, so why would Tortosa be the one responsible for paying for it? I can see Tortosa maybe responsible for paying for a portion of the bridge that is farther East down Honeycutt, but not the one in between phases 2 & 3 of Senita. From what I know, this bridge was a city project all along. But who knows, I am probably wrong.

Alert | | yeah I live in tortosa and never use that area. I dont know why tortosa would have ever said that they would pay for it. There are tons of other communities closer. Its at least 3 or four miles from tortosa's entrance. And if anyone knows how the tortosa hoa opperates, it would be 50 years before it got built.
