My poor Jada, diagnoised with valley fever 2 weeks ago and this week she tore her ACL, the vet says she needs surgery at a whopping 1000.00 to have them do a surgery or I can go the preferred option and take her to an orthopedic surgeon which is much more expensive. I want to get her the best care but funds are a little tight with all the vet trips she has been taking. I was wondering if anyone has had any experiences with this with their dogs and was it succesful and price ranges. Thanks...

My aunt and uncle have a yellow lab that has had 2 ACL surgerys. Our family jokes that the darn dog was so lucky to be put in their home. The dog has had a seizure disorder since they got it. They pay for monthly medication to keep the seizures under control. They do a full blood panel every three months to make sure she is ok. About five years ago on a jog the dog tore her first ACL. They did the surgery which was $2000.00 (this is in San Diego). Last year the dog tore another ACL and had surgery in December. Three months ago the dog was diagnosed with cancer. They are doing everything they can for their 10 year old lab.
I wish you the best of luck. As far as success goes, both of the dogs surgerys were totally successful.

thanks for the input! My husband and I were joking how she is our Million Dollar dog in Doggie Dollars!! The bummer is I did not put her on pet insurance before all this happened so now I cannot get her on it for a year until the Valley Fever has been taken care of... Oh well part of being a pet owner, poor thing i feel so bad for her she is hobbling around on 3 legs. And Best of luck to your parents dog!

I know what you mean about the pet insurance. My aunt also thought she wouldn't need it...then they diagnosed the seizure disorder and the dog was then ineligible.
Like I said, good luck to you guys. I do know that they had to make a padded pen for the dog. It was like 3 by 3 (small!), and the dog was in it for three months after the surgery - only to be let out on a leash to go to the bathroom.
