Lately with the monsoon storms it's brought out the frogs of course. So I'm wondering if they're poisonous (sp) All I can give you as a description is they seem to be white in color. I can't stand frogs so I can't bring myself to look at them very long. <img src='http://www.85239.com/desktopmodules/ntforums/images/emoticons/w00t.gif' height='20' width='20' border='0' title='w00t' align='absmiddle'> I know some frogs are not good if your dog gets ahold of them and I want to know if I need to be concerned about these.
Thanks

Here's some good info. Keep your dogs away from them. They typically come out at night & are attracted to the light, so if you have a doggy door, it's a good idea to keep it closed at night. One of my customers lost her cocker to a toad last year. I've seen MANY in hidden valley & a few in the city limits - RED & Alterra so far.

The Colorado River toad, also known as the Sonoran Desert toad, found in Arizona, is toxic to dogs when they lick or swallow it. Your pet may also suffer if a toad sits in the dog's drinking water for a long enough period. The poison in the toad's skin may produce effects ranging from severe discomfort to paralysis and death.

If your dog has come in contact with this toad:

If the toxin touches the dog's eyes or inside of the mouth, flush the affected area with running water.
In the mouth, run the water from one side of the outside of the mouth to the other side. This allows the toxic rinse water to run out of the mouth instead of down your dog's throat.
Take your dog to a veterinarian if it has any unusual symptoms.

I guess I'm weird, I caught a baby toad not long ago and it was the highlight of my day. He was adorable. I have yet to see the cane toads though.

Thanks everyone, I had my reservations and now it's confirmed. I haven't seen any in the back yard yet, but we had one near the front door. We're within jumping distance of U of A and the perfect vegitation they could be living in.
No doggie door so no worries with that.
Thanks again. <img src='http://www.85239.com/desktopmodules/ntforums/images/emoticons/kiss.gif' height='20' width='20' border='0' title='Kiss' align='absmiddle'>

Does anyone have the story that this site did about the poisonous toads a couple of weeks ago? We think we found one in our yard last night. It was not warty & I wanted to look at that pic again, but I can't find it.

We have a 3 month old puppy & are worried about the nasty toads.

TIA

The quickest way to tell is to look for white bumps behind its mouth. That would indicate the toxic variety.

baking soda, and lots of it, will neutralize the acid based poison. works immediately.

What me worry?

Okay, I thought I saw some of these bad boys when I was out for a night run. So I did a little research. My apologies ahead of time if the YouTube doesn't play. Admittedly, it's pretty corny, but the site is pretty good (www.bufoalvariusreport.com). Here goes:
