I did some checking this week and discovered the following:

Maricopa PD issues between 150-200 citations each week, which are comprise mostly civil and criminal traffic citations. Maricopa PD works 7 days a week from 6:00 am to 4:00 pm only.

PCSO issued a total of just under 150 citations for all of last year on a 24/7 schedule.

Personally, I am glad to see that MPD is doing exactly what we asked for, and doing it well. I am glad to see that our tax money is being used to address what most residents view as our biggest problem. I have already seen a dramatic decrease in major car accidents in the past month, and I can only equate it to strong traffic enforcement.

Thanks Maricopa PD for keeping our streets safer!

Must have missed that whopper at the entrance to RED.
But I am also glad to have them here. Hopefully, they'll start citing the Sheriffs cars that speed around town like they own it. Saw one this morning going 30MPH (I was on JWP and paced him) through the Bashas parking lot (from Autozone to the gas station) and doing roll throughs at the stop signs.

Keep in mind that the Maricopa PD issues citations within Maricopa. Maricopa has a lot of varying and vague speed limits, where as 347 (outside of Maricopa) has only a few and they are clearly defined.

No police department can issue traffic violation tickets on private property, because driving laws apply only on public roads.

Is that how you measure them doing a good job by giving out more citations? Do you measure how good of a job the state is doing on crime by the rate of imprisonment they have?

to upol..... i have no idea where you get your information from, but your are sadly mistaken on the number of citations written by PCSO. Just ONE deputy wrote 174 in 14 working days, so how is 150 in one year possible? With 2 full time traffic cars before the maricopa police department even hit the road, PCSO was nailing people to tune of 40-50 per shift (that's only for 2 traffic units), not to mention the other regular patrol deputies. Don't get me wrong, the maricopa police department have done an outstanding job of enforcing traffic, mostly thanks to the fact that they have motor officers and only have to cover one shift at this point.
