Alert | Were you hoping to kiss one and see if he turns into a prince?
We have actually seen and heard them. They are sooooooo LOUD! Over by Pima Butte Elementary school, there is a body of water where they seem to hang out. One night, while walking the dog....I just had to go see what that horrible noise was. They seem to make more noise if it is sprinkling. There were lots of them. All sizes too!
I saw a HUGE one at the park in RED. Good thing I saw it before the dog did...I think they are poisonous to dogs.
Good luck.....I hope you find your prince. If it works, please report back =)

Alert | | Cool I love frogs. I have a friend in No CA who was raised here in AZ and she is totally afraid of frogs, every time I see one I think of her. LOL | | 25MPH in VRED: not just a good idea, it's the law.

Alert | | I think they are also on the golf course. We found one in our backyard last week that I believe came from there. My husband captured it and took it back to the golf course.

Alert | walk the golf course... you should find some there.
Check the lake at the park.
| | Just doing it one day at a time. Change is good and it should be looked upon as an improvment! not a problem. ______________________________________ *************************************** San Diego Super Chargers! GO!!! Joined old forum March 2006 Post count: 3068 + these | |

Alert | delby, Yes, the Sonoran Desert toads come out during monsoon season. We live in a rural area and they're all over our property. They are toxic to dogs, so we re-home them outside our fenced area when we come across them. Some of them can get pretty big.
Here's one I call Jabba the Hut.

Alert | Desert Dweller, we found a major amount of tadpoles, and decided to feed them and see them change. Within a week they went from crazy tadpoles to little frogs, the size of my pinky nail that look just like your frog above.
They ate like crazy the frog food and fish flakes as tadpoles, but now they don't seem like they are eating much, however they are not dieing so they must be eating something....I have them in a tank with some water plants and am feeding them fish flakes and frog pellots. Is there something else I should be feeding them.....also should they be in so much water now or should I switch them to a dirt habitat with a water dish? The kids are just loving them....We have about 15 now, but I'm going to get rid of at least 1/2 of them because the water gets dirty too fast with that amount, and I've seen a big one out front, and could never keep up with 15 huge toads. I thought they were the North America Bull Frog, but your telling me they are a toad...so much to learn. | | "Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind." ~ Dr. Suess

Alert | | I'd recommend getting rid of all of them. If they are Sonoran toads - they are toxic, not only to dogs but people too. It's a hallucinagenic drug for people.

Alert | Well, me and my family don't plan on licking them anytime soon (LOL), they are as small as my pinky nail for crying out loud, the gland that produces the poison can't even be big enough to cause us harm....we are more suseptible to killing them by getting our toxins on them (i.e. hairspray, soap etc).
Don't want them forever, just while they are cute, but don't want to starve them either.
Also we don't own dogs so there is no risk there, and they are in a covered aquarium, so my cats can't get to them.
So @ the time I'm not too worried about their toxins, only about their tummies.
Any idea?

Alert | | The adults are bug eaters - crickets, beetles etc. I'm guessing the babies would be smaller bug eaters???

Alert | I take it you found them in a puddle out in the desert somewhere. They are probably too small to tell now, but one way to identify the Sonoran Desert or Colorado River toad is by the white glands behind their mouths, which secrete the toxin. Keep in mind that these buggers can live up to 20 years, so you are making a long-term commitment if you make pets out of them.
Delby, come on out to Hidden Valley and we will have a moonshine-brewin' toad-lickin' good time. | | Stupid should hurt!
