Hello, I am new to Maricopa and starting to get back into a running routine again.

When I was in FL I would meet up with a big group of experienced, training runners to go on a good, long run with on Saturday mornings. This helped everyone stay motivated and push themselves to meet personal goals. Basically we were working up to and training for a marathon....Is there a group like this formed in Maricopa that I could run with? Let me know, I look forward to hearing from you!

Several people have tried to set something like this up in the past and it hasn't happened yet.

But new people are moving here all the time, so you never know.

I would like to see a diverse group of all running abilities and goals.

Welcome to Maricopa!

There is a great running group that runs Thursday nights. They start at RunAZ in Ahwatukee.
I know that a few of the elite runners do a group Saturday's. They usually run South Mountain. If you go on the Thursday night, you could mingle and probably find out more. They usually start at 6:30 or 7:00. Then have a few beers after.
A really great doctor runs in the group if you ever need a GOOD doctor who knows about runners. His name is Carson Robertson.

Thanks greatly for the info...I am brand new to the area, just moved w/ my wife and son. Where exactly would I need to go? Is there anyone I can get in contact with?

Thanks for your help!

I would call the RunAZ store for the exact time. In the summer they run at 7:00. That was the time last I checked. I haven't run with them since my last 1/2.
Here is the website for the store.

They are an awesome there. If you are in need for new shoes.. this is the place to go. I had tried a different running store when I first moved here... and it was not good.
They have 1 location in Ahwatukee and one on Gilbert and Warner.
They have all sorts of advise of good places to run, and people to run with.

I'm not trying to say anything negative, however, RunAZ is not all about the customer. I went in and purchased new running shoes and inserts. They did not have the inserts that I normally have but suggested something 'similar'. I tried them for one run of about 3 miles and the inserts didn't work. I took them right back and they said too bad, can't do anything for you. I was a bit taken aback by the lack of customer service. I will go to The Runner's Den or Performance Footwear from now on. Bummer too because the other is closer but I will go where I can get good customer service and a store that will stand behind what they sell.

I hope their runs are good and best of luck to you all.

Sole Sports, a new running store is located on the NE corner of Rural & Warner. They have just started their group runs. Their store also has locker rooms and showers available. No charge to join the group runs or use their facilities. Nice option if you want to stick around town after your run to do errands, etc. The owner is great and they have a large selection of shoes & apparel. Check out http://www.solesportsrunning.com/group-runs.htm

That is so weird about RunAZ, because I have NEVER had a bad time like that.
My hubby tried some new shoes that didn't work out, and it was about 3 or 4 weeks later, and they still took them back.
I had gone to Runners Den, and had some kid who really didn't know anything fit me the first time, (it was my first time buying real running shoes and didn't know enough myself)... they ended up not giving me large enough shoes, only increased the size by a 1/2 size, and I had horrible foot problems for the beginning of my running career.
I went to RunAZ, (the one in Gilbert).. and they got me in the correct shoes, and I have never had a problem since.
I think it is sad that you had such a bad time there... they are such a great group of people.
I reallly don't I would go to any other running store but them.

Hmmm...SuperSK, maybe it was the sales lady, but she seemed to have been around the block a time or two. Maybe I won't totally write them off.

Well, I guess it doesn't matter which store you go to, as long as you feel good about the store, and they give you the right shoes.
If you are in Gilbert Java Lover, maybe you should try the RunAZ there. Dan is the manager of that store, and he is almost always there.
He is super funny, and always has good advise.
