We are new to the area and I have been researching the school district, I read in an article that the superintendent was new last year and that he has a plan to improve the districts overall standing. Does anyone have any idea what the plan is or what the goals for the next two to five years is? I have spoken with a few neighbors who know some teachers and they tell me that the teachers don’t even know what the mission and or goals or anything about a plan.

We are moving from a hyper growth area and it has been my experience with our last district that some kind of outline for dealing with class size and building growth and or five year plan for increasing academic achievement was in place. It makes me nervous to know that this district may not have one.

Please share with me your experience with this district and Kyrene as those are the two options. I have to make up my mind before school starts and I want to make the right choice.

Courtney,

Don't be surprised by that, the plan has to be created by someone who knows what they are doing...Unfortunately we have a Super who takes credit for other peoples work.

We've had quite a few threads on the old forum that detail how this district is run. Short version is the teachers here for the most part are excellent but the administrators for the most part are inexperienced.

Expect to hear things like "what we envision, or we are currently working on that" as a political answer...

What that means is they have no substance but lots of dreams!

Courtney, some people will constantly say the same things over and over in every thread they comes across. I hope that you can recognize one-trick ponies when they trot by.

There are three options for schooling in Maricopa from what I understand. Legacy, too, has a school that is opening up here. There are many people on this forum who have experience in each of these options. I hope, as this site develops, that more people will be able to answer your questions thoroughly.

In the meantime, I would imagine the best way to find out the answers to the questions you're asking are not on an internet forum but at a school board meeting, a phone call to your school's principal, the superintendent himself maybe? If you're looking for information from those actually "in the know", I think going directly to the source is most effective.

Courtney,

Nothingtodo has some great advice. Another way to find out what is going on or to find out the quality of the teachers in this district and in Kyrene – is to go and meet the teachers. Talk to them and ask them questions. Even though the district (MUSD) is clueless (at times), I have to agree with Phantom78, there are lots of excellent teachers. You will find that even though school has not started officially for the teachers, they are already on many of the campuses working in their classrooms and getting ready for next year. I would stop by a school that has lots of cars in the lot and see if there are teacher available to talk to - see what they have to say too. I am sure that they will share with you too. What school would your kids go to if you do attend MUSD?

Hope this helps.

COURTNEY,
I understand the district will be holding a planning retreat which will be attended by the leadership team and all board members for the purpose of developing a plan for the next few years.
Since the board members are attending, this constitutes an open meeting for the public to attend if they so desire. If there are any parents / press interested in hearing what is being planned I can contact the district for the exact location and times. Location is the Gila River Resort for July 23,24,25.I will get further info if anyone is interested...

Nice options especially from someone who home schools, you have a board that echo's the Super, you have inexperienced principles in many cases that echo the Super, you have a super who speaks out of both sides of his mouth...I don't think they'll provide truthful answers.

Just ask Flores, he only saw two positives for the district and provided no information in his recent "interview".

One of the positives the Academic Decathalon was created by Gayle Smith who coordinated it. She of course is no longer woking here. Funny huh

John Flores also said in his interview that the emergency response plan was another success...What's interesting about that is Hiedi Fawcett and the principals made up those plans. That is a state mandated thing. Flores has memory problems so maybe someone should remind him that he decided not to show up during the gang event that took place this past year.

There is plenty of information available...If you really want the truth ask the many who have left the district or the current people within the district office that can only talk when they are at home. They're your neighbors who fear for their jobs.

This districts theme: Get on board or walk the plank!

I'll have another topic today disecting the Flores interview...

Phantom78

It would be interesting to find out if you have ever actually gone over to the district office with all of your free time spent posting and spoken with Dr. Flores? Just curious...

Okay,I did not intend to start a fight, just wanted information.

Nothing to do: I called the district office and received the information about the leadership retreat and words that they were in the process of developing a plan just as Phantom reported they would.

Thanks everyone for your input and if anyone has more info to share about their experience with the district please share.

osgoodsnog,

Let the misinformation abound. Let's see, if I take a guess, I am betting you are either ch, tm, or mg? Or maybe even the master himself, "YODA" ? Close? Well no matter, as phantom78 states, hide behind your pen name and spout ridiculous sputter about nothing since you clearly only know surface info and not facts as documented.

Don't feel bad Courtney, they've been fighting over this for weeks. YOU sound like you have it under control, there is a lot of good info here, you just have to separate the wheat from the chaff, as you've done.
