That's kinda personal, ain't it?

I have Vista on my office machine, XP on the rest. Linksys wireless network. Slingmedia to interface the TV/DVR.

I am having intermittent disk read errors with the Vista machine, so it's time to start doing backups before the thing crashes.

After making a backup, try having Vista scan for disk errors.

Yeah, that's on my list. I know it's going to take a while. CHKDSK, right?

I used to be fairly technical but went into management and didn't keep current on a lot of the new stuff coming out. My first operating system was CP/M. You?

Yes, chkdsk. Make sure to specify the /R option. First OS was DOS 5.something.

That's why OS X doesn't include Disk Utility, right? Oh wait... <img src='http://www.85239.com/desktopmodules/ntforums/images/emoticons/biggrin.gif' height='20' width='20' border='0' title='Big Grin' align='absmiddle'>

85239, what is that thing? A fridge? Does it have an icemaker? You graphics guys are all alike.

Actually, Apple is okay. I had a ][e back when they were the thing. I met both Jobs and Wozniak at the swap meet in Santa Clara. I met them both again later after Apple was founded at a bidders conference.

I had an Imsai and some other stuff. Everyone had to scrounge whatever parts they could from places like the computer swap meet - there were no computer stores. My I/O was a model 48 teletype. No CRT. I saved the paper and rolled it back up to print on the other side - the stuff was expensive. Programs were written on paper punch tape.
