First off … Looks like we still do not have a city manager, as the vote taken was invalid. Please see the following article in the Maricopa Monitor:

Maricopa Monitor Article

Looks like the board has a little egg on their face AGAIN!

Many thanks to Mr. Carl Diedrich for addressing the council in the last meeting. He brought out many of the concerns that myself and other citizens have. Unlike our council Mr. Diedrich seems to understand the people in our city.

A full and comprehensive review of the councils use of this clause should be done immediately. If the Good Ole Boys have been misusing it or any of the resolutions +/or ordinances have to be reversed as a result, these guys should be recalled.

Where were the city attorneys when all this was happening? It seems quite simple to me. 75% is 75% not 71%. In my mind this brings into question their ability to handle even the most simple of job roles. Have they made any mistakes on larger more significant ventures of the city unknown to us?

It's getting harder and harder to slip these things through. One of the reasons for the 3/4 majority rule on issues like this is to keep a council member from just abstaining by means of absence (thereby not having to take a stand on the issue one way or the other), or to keep an emergency resolution from being passed while key members are out of town.

Stupid should hurt!

Exactly! Thanks for clarifying the purpose of this clause more succinctly than I could.

It's only going to get worse in the next few weeks as more details come about the demotion.

This council is tripping all over themselves. Sometimes I feel it's like a train wreck. I don't want to watch, but I can't help it!

Mr. Diedrich is to be commended for both pointing this out, and having the courage to stand before them and make his feelings known. It isn't easy to "fight City Hall," yet he managed to make his point politely and firmly all at once.

So when's the next meeting going to be? It'll be interesting to observe the council's next attempt at cleaning up the mess they've created.

I find it interesting that there is no mention of ratifying the previous invalid vote on Mr Kolman's appointment to Temporary City Manager in the agenda for tomorrows council meeting....

Wow...

Just doing it one day at a time. Change is good and it should be looked upon as an improvment! not a problem.

Well we have yet to hear the real reason for this demotion. Come on, everyone knows the reason for it, but the council has yet to address it. I believe it should be brought up at the meeting.

That would be an HR issue, these things are usually handled in executive session.
If that's all you are interested in you are missing the boat.

Well, no, it is a city issue- why do you think they need a new city manager in the first place? This involves the people, their money, etc.

doc,

Why are you harping on OLD news...If you are worried about the city why aren't you concerned with the much much larger issues such as...

(1) Approx $200,000 lost on the Peed Property deal.

(2) $150,000 contract renewal for an airport consultant. I believe this is the 3rd renewal now.

(3) 3rd renewal (at over 150k per year) for an Economic Developer that hasn't developed an economy. Oh and by the way...also works for the same folks developing all the El Dorado properties.

(4) The money spent on an annexation that appears to have no interest to anyone other than 1 or 2 council members.

I can go on but the point is clear...you are sweating the small stuff and ignoring the more pertinent issues.

Speaking for myself, and I have read a lot of the posts, there does seem to be an issue with fishy activity by the people running this town.
I think all the points made are valid. A lot of problems stems from all the 'small stuff'- if we want to trust these people to run this town the right way, all business is important business.
One more thing, what's this I hear about the Mayor owning all the commercial property there? Does anyone know anything about that? That doesn't seem right either.
I will have to read up more about this annexation/council member stuff as well.
However, it appears many of the "small stuff "issues are starting to catch up to them... it's a good thing that the people can voice these issues on this post.

What can you expect from a bunch of famers trying to create a city?? Since I stand on the outside looking in...It appears to me that the city council member have personal interest that influence their decisions. ( $$$$$ )

There is no master plan....Its build as you go... sell land to any investor or what sounds good at the time.
Maricopa is becoming the same old cookie cutter community you see everywhere. Why can't we make things original, unique to Maricopa??

Running a city/county/state etc. is no different than running a corporation. Sound decisions have to be made. Instead we have farmers with experience in running thier road side stands, selling fruits and vegies.
The mayor's job it to improve our quality of life.

Proper Planning, Prevents P!$$ Poor Performance. I guess nobody has heard of the 6 p's.

Reminder...

The city council meets tonight 7:00 PM. They are holding the meeting at Global Water 22590 N. Powers Parkway. We need folks to attend and show this council we are watching.

Here is a link to another thread with the docs for this meeting:

If I had information that proves, beyond a shadow of a doubt, about the real reason for the demotion, who would I turn that over to? This information is court based and factual that there was/is some un professional and non-city related activities going on in the city offices. The City Council won't do anything, do I goto the media?
