My husband and I are training for a walk, and we do most of our walks at night once the sun has set.  We notice that the streets are very dark on some blocks, yet the houses have coach lights that aren't turned on.  It would be great if you could please turn your coach lights on for those of us that are walking, running and bike riding at night.  Thank you!

mine's on a timer cell on the side of my house, so it doesn't come on until 8pm or so!

I tend to leave mine burn all the time. Although I hate leaving them on during the day since it give shopping criminals the impression that no one will be home until after dark. I need to get a dusk to dawn sensor on those....

Mine are also on timers so they come on automatically. I beleive if you have them use them.....Maricopa Neighborhoods are too dark with no street lights.

It is not only safer to walk/ride the neighborhood but also keep your house less likely to be the subject of a burglery.

God bless you; AuntieEm and Hubby!  Thank you so much for taking on this wonderful cause!  I already supported my friend in Camp Verde that is also training for this very walk, but I hope you get the donations you need to participate.  You walkers are making great advancements towards breast cancer research and cures!  Hey Maricopa!  Light the way for these wonderful givers!  Garage lights is a small request, for such a big event!  My hat is off to all those who have walked to help battle breast cancer!

All of the coach lights in Cobblestone Farms are on sensors and turn on each night plus we have street lights on the interior streets not just on the corners so you may think to drive over here to walk if that helps any.

Good luck to you. I have always wanted to do that walk. A dear friend of mine died 5 years ago of breast cancer at the age of 29 leaving behind 2 young boys. I really should commit to that walk too.

Thank you for walking!!!

Yes, I love having no street lights for the same reason.  The view of the stars from Maricopa is so beautiful.  But it is a bit creepy walking down a pitch black street.  Some streets are so dark you can't see your hand in front of you.  And with the recent stories of people getting jumped during the day, it's nice having a lighted path on our walk.  Plus, now that school is out, we see lots of families out walking or riding their bikes.  It just makes it much more enjoyable for everyone.

And yes, we already carry a small flashlight with us.

Granny and Luv - thanks so much for your kind words!  I really appreciate them.  Please be sure to send us some positive vibes every few nights!  It's getting harder and harder to walk the hotter and hotter it gets.

AuntieEm, sorry if I came across negative. I was trying to be positive with the 'how gorgeous the stars are' comment.

I've not done the 60 mile thing but I did run a 1/2 marathon in March for the leukemia lymphoma society. I also trained for a marathon through a summer once. It's hard, but just keep your goal in mind and keep dragging yourself out. While walking think how nice a shower is going to feel. Also, give yourself permission to shorten or skip a walk once in a great while...it will do you good when you start getting up there in mileage.

Good luck!

I think it is a great thing that you are doing AuntieEm. My sister was disgnosed with Stage 3 breast cancer at the age of 30. She had her right breast removed and has under went Chemotherapy and is currently getting radiation treatments. I will be walking with her next year in her local walk in North Carolina.
God Bless you and good luck!

i agree with the carry a flashlight sentiment...with gas prices and food prices and other things going to hell in a hand basket....maybe people are saving a few bucks a month by not running their coach lights every night

Seriously?  It probably costs less than $1 a day to run those things.  One would be better off not buying their daily Starbucks fix.

And your neighbors safety is certainly worth more than that.

I'll take the Starbucks.

I live in the Villages.  My coach lights go on at dusk and off at dawn.

Your welcome.

I feel for you AuntieEm. But you need to be realistic. Probably 75% of Maricopa doesn't even know this site exists. 20% knows but doesn't care. 4% used to care, but got banned from the site. And 1% actually reads anything on this site anymore.

If I were you, I would drive to a lit community and do your walking, or maybe Pacana Park (that place is lit up big time). I turn mine on every night from dusk til dawn, but if I really started scraping for coins....those lights would be one of the first things to go. I think alot of people here in Maricopa are not concerned about how bright the street is.

Good luck on that walk. It's a noble mission you have undertaken.

If AuntieEm would pay all those 1 dollar electric bills she could have her lights. Lets just say it cost $.50 a day x 30 days x 100 houses thats only $1500.00 a month.

You know what?  Forget it.  Forget I ever asked.  Didn't think that asking folks to turn on their coach lights would get panties in a bunch.  I'll just walk in the dark.
