I want to throw somehting out there to see what kind of response it gets.

I'm thinking of manufacturing Bio-Diesel out here in Maricopa.  If I did, would anyone be interested in purchasing it from me?  As of right now, I'd be looking at a sale price of $2.00-$2.50 a gallon.  That's about half of petroleum diesel.  For convenience, it would probably be sold in 20 gallon increments.

Is this something you'd be interested purchasing for cost, convenience, and eco-friendliness?

If an 08 Duramax will take it - I'll buy it.  BTW just lowered the price on an 02 Powerstroke 4X4 if anyone is interested.

If you can make bio-diesel for that price, then you will have more customers than you can service.

Good luck to you and your venture!

FYI... from what I have heard through my diesel-loving friends (most of which own trucks, but some have v-dubs..)... you can mix roughly 20% strained/filtered fryer oil directly into your tank with no processing necessary...

The catch is finding a restaurant that will fork it over for free nowadays...

To think I used to pay for someone to come and pick up the grease for me.

I think you would do good with it, there are a lot of consumer diesels nowdays.

hmmm, thats a tough one. Are you going to be ASTM certified, tack on the taxes and everything else it takes to be on the up and up? What sort of quality control can be expected? I will be running biodiesel soon, but i don't think i would run someone else's science experiment through my tank. I would buy it if i knew you, and knew you knew what your were doing, but catalytic converters, injection pumps and injectors are too expensive for me to trust random guy on a message board and his garage brewed fuel.

City permitting for refining fuel may cause a problem too. If your in a development the HOA will surely throw a fit, but i think you would know that already.

I'm waiting for this place to open, then i'll be taking cans to fill. I'll be able to buy my fuel once a month that way....as long as their prices stay below the price of standard diesel

You did. its starting to turn around now, and some restaurant owners are starting to charge. www.azgreendining.com offers a service where they remove waste oil for no charge, and they provide their own container.

As long as it is filtered well you could probably run straight veggie oil here in the summer, since its warm enough not to thicken. I'd guess there is a safe mix you could go with, but it would all depend on climate. I'm not all that familiar with WVO, I'm too lazy, I prefer to pull up to a pump, swipe my card and fill up that way

I have a ton of duner friends who most all drive diesels...

One guy has a 2003 (i think) F350 that he puts about 7gal of veggie oil in when he fills up (when he's really close to empty)

Another buddy has a ~'04 VW TDI that he puts in 1-2.5 gallons per fill-up..

They really don't have to do anything to oil.. it's too diluted with the diesel that it doesn't matter.. at least that's what they tell me..

The only guy I can think of off hand that I know runs on straight fryer oil drives an old Mercedes.. he has a warming tank and filter kit in his trunk.. the last time I spoke to him about it (about a year ago).. he said his total cost was ~.75 gal.. which included the in-car filter changes... and the materials and straining/filtering he does prior to putting it into his car..

With the exception of the Mercedes guy, they've been doing this for the past few years.. The Mercedes guy has been doing this for.. I want to say at least a decade..
