If you are referring to the Keating Five S&l scandal - In a recent talk show the lead investigator (Robert S. Bennett a well known Democrat operative) for the Democratic controlled Senate committee that investigated that issue said that he told the Democratic leaders that McCain had done nothing wrong and should be dropped from the investigation. He was told that McCain could not be dropped as that would leave only Democrats under investigation, They had to have at least one Republican in order to make it look like both parties were equally involved. this was not a Republican making this claim, it was a loyal Democrat, who happened to also be an honorable man. To be sure, Republicans have their share of corruption issues to deal with. Any party that is in power for any length of time will face that problem, but the Keating issue was not one of them. The reason that the Dems and the liberal press have not brought up this issue is because they know the facts and do not want it to blow up in their faces. A good measure of Obama's honesty will be whether he tries to use this as an issue in the campaign. |
