Alert | The little plants in my front yard are dying! Again! Even my tree looks like it's starting to wilt in the sun. (Not that I blame it, really. I'd wilt in the 120 degree heat, too.)
How often should I be running the drip system? My front yard is pretty boring -- it was builder installed, so it's the standard tree and six or seven little shrubs and bushes. Except for the lantana, I don't know what they are. (So not a plant person ...) There's only one zone on the sprinkler system for the area, so I can't really customize watering times for different plants.

Alert | | nearly everything we have is crispy too. we've decided to sacrifice the grass, and we are watering the trees plants and shrubs every day in the wee hours of the morning for almost an hour. i had to replace 1/2 my yard after the freeze and i'm sure we'll have to do the same after the roast! | | If you can't spot the loser, it might be you

Alert | | Watering your plants everyday will cause root rot and your plants will die for sure. Go to every other day. Trust me on this, others will agree. You don't have to sacrifice your grass either. Summer grass can take the heat. Just water it for a long time every second or third day. 15 min per zone would work. The plants will die if you keep the hour a day routine up. | | | |

Alert | Michelle, you refer to your plants as little...how old are the plants? Did you just get them planted? If the soil is well draining I wouldn't worry about root-rot in this extreme heat. More mature plants can survive a lack of watering but young plantings need to establish a root base and need to be nurtured. You can over ride your drip system and manually water your plants..at this time of year I wouldn't worry to much what each particular plants watering needs are. A good drink at 10 minutes three times a day ought to keep them happy. Keep in mind, no-one has a black thumb...your's may just be a lighter shade of green! Good Luck! | | ANYONE HOME?
