My husband and I are building a house at  The Lakes. We are very concerned about the possibility of MUSD building a bus barn in the lakes community. How do you, the residents that currently live in The Lakes or in RED, feel about this issue?

DosYorkies--

Glad to hear you found out about this! I have done my best to inform everyone I could in The Lakes. If you happen to know anyone, pass the word. Even in other parts of the city. I have friends in The Villiages who are not happy at the thought of more traffic on Smith-Enke. The city told me that our best defense is to show up to the meeting on Wednesday in numbers. I look forward to meeting you there

I don't like that it may be coming. I don't like that land donated to be a school now has the potential to be a storage yard. I don't like the idea of both powers parkway and RED parkway becoming swamped with the traffic of employees picking up their buses and then the buses leaving. I also don't like the idea of a dark industrial yard on the edge of our park, I think together it could lead to problems. or it would suck if a brightly lit industrial yard was backing up to homes.

All that said, i won't be at the meeting in protest. I know it has to go somewhere, and unfortunately it happens to be "in my back yard". I hope those that do show up will sway the opinion of the board, but if the the schools need it to be there than that's where it needs to be.

Vinny,

I understand your position. What gets me is that we have nothing but land out here in Maricopa. I could have more sympathy to the school board if this truly was the ONLY place. Also, that the school board has had almost two years to come up with a place and hasn’t? Ok…so that’s not all that ‘gets me’. The fumes for my children, the traffic for my husband, and of course the deprecation of my home. And I did solely move here because of the promise of a beautiful neighborhood. Well I can’t say you will not be missed

Vinny,
No decisions were made tonight at the meeting. 3 residents stood up and spoke about their feelings regarding the issue. The city made a presentation basically outlining the situation and why The Lakes isn't an appropriate location, and suggested some other properties/land where the district could buy/lease land for the busses. So i'm not really sure where it stands at this point.
Hopefully the district will make the right decision and be able to find a different location that will be more suitable.
PS Christy i sent you a message.
