Maricopa, Ariz. (June 2, 2008) - The City of Maricopa invites the community to join in marking a huge milestone for the City's public library system - it's the start of construction of the new Maricopa Public Library, the first civic building to be built in the City of Maricopa! Mayor Kelly Anderson and Vice Mayor Brent Murphree will host the ceremony on Tuesday, June 3, at 8:30 am at the northeast corner of Smith-Enke Road and Desert Greens Parkway.
The City of Maricopa will present awards to the John and Mary Lou Smith Family, Oliver and Hermina Anderson Family as well as the Harry and Pat Brock Family. These three families were the original pioneers of library services in Maricopa and played integral roles in maintaining and preserving Maricopa's history and heritage.
"This groundbreaking is an exciting milestone for our community's library system, and everyone in the community is invited to attend this momentous event," invited Martin McDonald, acting community services director.
When completed in winter, this new library will feature: 8,085 square feet in a single story, light-filled building; community meeting rooms and gathering spaces; a family place and storytelling area for young children and their caregivers; and a computer station for digital learning.
Parking will be allowed along Desert Greens Parkway for visitors to the ceremony, and light refreshments will be served.
