I spoke with someone at the Fresh and Easy on Ray Rd in Chandler a few weeks ago. We asked if they were opening any other markets anywhere (did not mention Maricopa) they said there corporate is putting holds on new markets for a while, they want to see how things work out any kinks in their stores....They were having some cash register/ computer problems when we were there. Sounds like most stores are proceding very carefully do to the economy, not just the Maricopa area.

Spoke with a person from the city the other day and we were talking about the coming's and going's and Fresh and Easy is still on track.  I think they are at the "sign going to be posted" stage.

I just received a hearing notice regarding new development at the SW corner of Edison and JWP...just south of the new Tutor Time. Fresh & Easy is listed as one of the stores planned for that shopping center.

They can put the sign next to the Maricopa Station sign. The empty lot north of CVS. I've been here about 1.5 years and that sign was there then.

I have yet to see ANYTHING develope.

I spoke with the Manager of the store that is out on Baseline near Laveen. The manager lives in Maricopa and would really like a store here, but he said they did not have plans for one anytime soon. This was about 2 months ago. So things may have changed, but if the manage,r of a FRESH AND EASY ,that lives in Maricopa has no idea, I would not be hopefull.

I read in the Arizona Republic that Fresh and Easy Stores in the bay area missed their sales projections by a whopping 70% for the first quarter of this year.  I don't know whether this means anything for us, but I would think that unless sales in existing stores in the U.S. improve considerably, they will rethink future expansion plans.

The fresh & easy is still on track to open next spring, on the corner of JWP & Hathaway! Construction will begin later this year. I'm not sure who this store manager is that lives in Maricopa, but he doesn't know what he's talking about (which is sad - he should know what is going on in his company). The company had planned all along to slow store opening and work through any issues, but there are plenty of stores being built and gearing up to open. This company is going to go a long way - the fresh meat, produce, prepared meals, etc. are proving it! It is such a better way to shop - and eat, for that matter (no preservatives or additives, nothing artificial). I stop by fresh & easy 3-4 times a week, and hate to shop anywhere else now!

new2blog....in regards to your comment about the manager not knowing something about the company he works for....when i was G.M. for McDonalds we did not always know what the "big wheels" were planning until it was about to happen...so i would not fault this manager for not knowing

its not uncommon for corporations to keep store managers out of the loop. As the old saying goes, they are on a need to know basis.....

The reasons are plenty, there could be last minute changes, could be to prevent knowledge that could effect stock prices from leaking, or just to prevent the spread of rumors.

Hmmm, rumors... Seems maybe the manager was the one spreading "rumors"? Companies do not keep key people "out of the loop". Especially when a manager has a desire to work in his hometown. He would have known... Regardless, our store will be awesome and it will be great to save gas to get healthy food!!

Actually, Executive management has always kept news like new operations from the employees and management at the companies I have worked for. My previous job was a City Manager for another airline and I had always told the execs that I would love to move back to my hometown as a manager if it were to ever open.

The announcement was found out by all employees by reading the newspaper that they were opening service to the city I wanted to move to. I did get the job by the way, but with no notice.

I think it is pretty standard practice for execs to keep lower management and working class employees out of the loop. If information like new store openings and the like became common knowledge around the company then that could be used for insider trading of the companies stock. To minimize this risk many companies keep all info on a need to know basis and a store manager at another store does not NEED to know about any other store than his or her own store.
