This route would handle all container rail transportation from the port into the United States from Mexico into Arizona. Once in the United States, Union Pacific could then transport these container trains across southern Arizona along existing rail lines, which parallel Interstates 8 and 10 to Picacho Peak. Ok, that's 50000 trains going from the port thru the Copa Does that mean that another 50000 will be going the other way west to pick up more containers?

No, once they make it to the west coast they all fall into the Pacific Ocean and they have to build new ones. BTW for the person who wrote the original peice. If it takes 10,000 to 1 million the increase from 1 million to 5 million will account for 40,000 more cars. Not 50,000.

The plan is to build a bridge over the tracks..the way it is in CG and Tucson. I know no one likes the idea of trains going through their town but, this has got to be good for your economy. Fist of all Union Pacific is an outstanding employer secondly, corporations are looking to the rail for shipping since fuel prices are so high. Maricopa currently has nothing to draw any major employer to the area.

Very true it could be good. The bridge though I don't see happening anywhere in the near futrue.
