Does anybody know anything about this?  Here is a statement posted in another forum:

"the only section 8 housing i know of is Senita.  There are a lot of Katrina survivors there."

I know that at the HOA meeting last week Helen tried to bring this topic up but was quickly shut down by Ogden due to "lack of time".

I sure hope not... I did find it interesting how they danced around that.....

Section 8:

  • To help low income people maintain their dignity and independence during a time of transition or crisis by providing temporary rental assistance.
  • To help people maintain their dignity and independence
  • To help people during a time of transition or crisis
  • To help people move toward independence

From the Pinal County housing page.
Maybe somebody can call and ask how to prevent these 'people' from residing in our many empty and uncared for homes while they are trying to rebuild (build) their lives.... here's the link, make the call and report....

Jhall,

I don't believe they danced around it, I think we just didn't have 4 hours to listen to people yell about section 8. Let's be honest, no body wants it. But I don't believe we can prevent it. Section 8 is bound to happen. It's government guaranteed rent for the homeowner.

I look at some websites online, and I found Section 8 housin g in Tortosa and Altera as well.

I know that Section 8 conjures up some vivid images in people's minds. But, just as we shouldn't claim that all renters don't care about their homes and neighborhoods, or that all fights and graffiti are gang related, we should also not jump to the conclusion that all Section 8 tenants are criminals. If Cheyenne is correct, then it appears that at least some of the tenants wound up here after the Unites States' worst natural disaster. And maybe they just need a year or two to get back on their economic feet.

I would like that source as well please. I think Forensic is right no one should jump to conclusions but I think the people who live there have a right to fight if they feel it is a just cause. So to play a little devils advocate…Yes it is "guaranteed rent for the homeowner" and that stimulates the economy but most of the home owners who participate in section 8 are investors. In those situations, as we have all seen in Maricopa, some of those investors could care less about the property or what it looks like as long as they get a check for rent. So when the owner/investor doesn’t care they usually don’t have tenets that care as well. Since who is going to get on the tenet when most of them live out of state. I also agree there is no way to stop this but until Ogden starts cracking down on those who don’t keep up their property this will make things worse. I did some driving around over there in Senita this past week and it appears the part West of the wash has some problems with weeds, burned houses (boarded up), ect.. From what I hear Ogden doesn’t seem to on top of the game either. Just my thoughts.

I once rented to a section 8;

speed was her drug of choice and moved a boyfriend in.  Kicked in my furnace to tune of 1400 repair job.  finally got her evicted.  Never again.

I have to stand up for Section 8, my family owns 8 rentals and 7 of them are now Section 8. They are the best renters, they take good care of the home and always pay their portion on time, if they don't then they lose their government assistance. Never had a problem with section 8 renters, only the other ones.

They can be the best renters but it depends on the home owner.. If they careless about the property so will the renter. Where I live there are homes owned by CA investors that could careless so the renters do as well and the houses/yard look terrible on houses that are less then 2 yrs old. There is to many variables for anyone to know if it would be good or bad.
