First hats off the Marty McDonald & the whole slew of people who put on a fabulous Salsa Festival, wow it was great....it had everthing but...recycling and we were in "Green Week"....everthing you could possibly think of the Salsa Festival had it....except recyling the estimated 100,000 items that could have been recycled....it would have made for a much easier cleanup if recycling bins were provided or if just signs were hung encouraging people to carry home their recyclables...it could have been free to hang signs if money was an issue. My family of 4 attended and we carried home 26 plastic bottles and cans in the salsa bags provided because it was hot and we were hydrating/we drank alot of fluids....or giant containers of water could have been provided so people could refill their empty plastic bottles instead of trashing them....and avoided buying tiny platic bottles which didnt last long and had to buy more throughtout the day....again a terrific event but please recycle next year and at future events...if you need a volunteer to help manage a recylcling program count me as your first, thanks!

The other day, I recycled a lot of Green Salsa - with a trace of burning sensation - Keeping It Green!

In the past people do not use the recycling bins for recycling, they throw their trash in the recycle bins.

i have no clue about the city or this event, but when i used to work for a large corporate chain, it was all about the money to put the recycle containers in place. about 75% of what we threw in the garbage each day was recycleable. when asked why they wouldn't put a recycling program in place, even given how good for the earth it would be, etc. they said the cost to put in recycle containers in the work place was not cost effective. go figure.

Personally, I have worked many special events in Maricopa and have included recycling bins and recycling signs. Unfortunately, unless there are volunteers standing next to both the trash and recycling bins, many people don't take the time to stop and do the "right" thing.

I appreciate you volunteering to help with future events. My suggestion to Marty was to gain a group of volunteers e.g. citizens, boy scouts, etc. to supervise recycling bins at each event, so that we can offer recycling.

Anyone else willing to volunteer to supervise recycling at the special events, please contact Marty.

The people of Maricopa are sorry that we are too stupid to know the difference between the recycle and the trash bin.
