Alert | Been putting alot of thought into this. We bought our home the day lots were realeased in our neighborhood and Im confident were still in the +. Put cash down that we made from our sell in RED. Im heavily thinking of just putting our home on the market and getting out of here. Maricopa and Tortosa for that matter just seems to be plummeting and this HOA fiasco isnt helping. With the market where it is Im thinking of moving back to Chandler or Glendale. Its not all just the probs here but when I moved here I didnt take into account that going to a Cardinals game or a Yotes game would be a mission. I knew I was moving farther from work but I moved alot farther from the things I like to do. I sacrificed quality of life for a cheap home. Is it time to throw in the chips and get out of here while the homes are reasonable in the valley? I know I'd have to mark my home way down just to sell it but Im almost willing to do that. I'd jsut be losing some of hte money I made in RED. Maybe Im just having a bad day | | Pizzaking Wasnt a member 0 posts

Alert | | I agree with RichTig. Be where you are happy. I don't live in Tortosa, but I have made Maricopa my home. I have committed to be involved here. I have left two job opportunities out of area because it was taking away what I value in life. It didn't take long for me to realize it wasn't worth it. | | My answer is "NO" to Q#5 and Q#1.

Alert | we've thought about packing it in too, but we'd take a huge loss so we're not going anywhere for awhile. The things that really piss us off are the empty promises we were given. We were told "oh yeah, we are going to have a catch and release lake online here next year" (this was last year) "they are putting in a road to connect Hartman to the I10" Yeah ok!! "They are building retail on Porter and Honeycutt". We were told a whole ton of crap from our home sales person who I won't name who isn't here anymore either. I don't even have to mention the HOA situation. $85 a month thrown out the window! If I had a time machine, we would have stayed in Tempe !!!

Alert | we dont REALLY want to leave but I do agree Linda and i have had 2nd thoughts...especially with a tons of major businesses pulling out of building in Maricopa. That plus the Tortosa area looks kinda run down. Things look the same as they did last year and with the addtion of the tower being complete, thats the only progress we've seen (and even that is not FULLY done!)
If we had the money, of course we would have chosen Gilbert or Chandler but we could only go where our budget allows...so Tortosa it is. I just wish peoplle took more pride in their homes and the property around them. Nowadays it seems no one cares about weeds, trash, loafing kids and progress...which really worries me! | | "...you knew that before you came here"- The 85239.com's stupid answer to every comment"

Alert | | Lexmark - Listen to yourself. Are you 5 years old? My daddy can beat up your daddy! My $3 bill is greener than yours! That's how idiotic you sound. Just shut up and leave already. No one wants to hear your "Holier than Thou" jabber. I don't even live in Tortosa and you are extremely annoying. Trust me, Tortosa is much happier to get rid of you than you are of it.

Alert | Do I wish we lived closer to the Valley and closer to work? Absolutely. especially with gas prices as high as they are and driving 124 miles a day, when we moved here, wasn't expecting gas prices to be this high and that is actually the only reason i wish we didn't live down here. However, I knew before moving here, that my commute would be 124 miles a day, whether i was paying high or low in gas, i knew my mileage daily, so it was still my choice to come down here.
in terms of all the issues we have here, such as weeds and people not caring about their homes. lets face it...we all pretty much took a gamble that we would end up living with great people or horrible people. we all knew that we would end up with people who could care less if they have weeds that are as tall of their windows, we all knew we would have neighbors who's kids are absolutely nothing but terrors. just because we may take pride in our home, doesn't mean that joe down the road is going to. does that mean, our community is trashy and we should all pack up and leave? of course not. all we can do is complain to the HOA until something is finally done.
and i will say, i have complained a couple of times to our HOA and they have taken care of the issues...so i won't say they do nothing. the only complaint i have with Tortosa is the fact that as a community, we have nothing, no pool, no real park, but again, we knew this when we moved here, that our community was basic. anyways...tortosa is what we make of it. seriously, maybe it's time we stopped talking about all the things wrong with our community and start working on making things better.

Alert | | lets face it our community is having some issues....some of it brought about because of the "recession" we are in....but if you read threads in other HOA's around town they are having the same issues we are having and some worse....i too wish everyone would care about how their yards looked because it not only reflects who they are but it reflects upon our community as a whole....with regard to what was promised that we would be getting here in tortosa...the sales people can only pass along what they have heard from their sources...whether it was jaclyn..sara...kristin...or brian who sold you your home they were just passing along what is "supposed" to be built here...as i mentioned before with the downturn in the economy things have been pushed back...personally i am more concerned with businesses pulling out then some catch and release pond we might get...without some larger big box retail our property values will take more of a hit then whether our sniper tower is landscaped....yes that being said id like tortosa to have all of those ammenities...i also would like to shop without having to drive 25-30 miles to do so...no offense to small business owners...but most of what we have here is mom and pop specialty shops which wont survive most of the time anyway...and they wont keep people from going to shop elsewhere...anyhow give it time...try and be patient...tortosa will be great! | | *formerly known as inyrfce2* Senior Member Posts: 797 Joined: Dec 2006

Alert | I agree..Linda and I are not going anywhere soon (and even if we wanted to, we couldnt sell our house even if we tried LOL!)..We plan on sticking it out for atleast 5 years, if possible.
Hopefully by then Alot of these issues will be resolved and the HOA will be on their game and insure that we keep up OUR areas and take care of those that need "help" in insuring the value stays at a competative value. Right now is kinda a "free-for-all" with people doing what the want to their homes out front and some look REALLY good and in some areas it looks REALLY REALLY bad... I drove down the street last week in my community (Barcelona) and there were bikes and toys strown all in the middle if the streets! I was like WTH??? I had to drive AROUND them in the street as if I was driving around cones on a course! LOL! Worst part was the parents were just sitting in their driveway and just glared at us we drove by! Hello people!!!????
Bottom line is we own OUR community and its OUR job to make sure WE take care of it and take pride in it! Thats the only way to make sure we maintain the value of our homes and the keep the community looking awesome! Even if it means picking up a few weeds in the neighbors yard, around the community mailboxs and reporting weird activity to the police or HOA! | | "...you knew that before you came here"- The 85239.com's stupid answer to every comment"
