Alert | | Has anyone else received a letter from their finance company requiring flood insurance? FEMA's new flood maps of December 4, 2007, now has Desert Cedars in an AO flood zone.

Alert | | I have not received a letter (yet). When we bought our house (May 2006), we were told in advance we were already considered zone A0, but the US Home sales guy said the FEMA maps were being re-worked to incorporate recent improvements, and we'd no longer be an A zone. It appears this was not true. Was anyone else told anything like this by the builder? Of course, it was all verbal discussions - nothing in writing. The only thing I have in writing was the A0 disclosure.

Alert | | I have documentation that Desert Cedars and Maricopa Meadows were removed from the flood zone classification as result of drainage improvements made to both developments. The public report I received when I purchased in August 2006 states Desert Cedars is not in the flood zone. A recent visit to City Hall and a discussion with Rodolfo Lopez(Planning) futher confirmed the above. I am beginning to believe FEMA's December 2007 flood maps are incorrect, but unfortunately I have yet to find the right person(s) in FEMA that will discuss the matter with me.

Alert | Kukulcan, If you find any information, please be sure to pass it on. There are many of us in Alterra that are now being told that we are in a flood zone as well. Ugh! The joys of owning a home....

Alert | I contacted CW today and was advised the flood insurance policy was removed from my mortage. I had noticed a change in my account (online) over the weekend which prompted my call. CW representative stated I would receive a letter showing the change in my escrow amount less the $350 lender placed insurance in 10 business days.
I suggest anyone with CW make contact and verify the flood has been removed. I would be interested in knowing if I am an isolated case due to my numerous phone calls and faxes to CW.

I would be happy if anyone can forward concrete information that I can backup this data with the lender

I'm in Desert Cedars. I received my letter from my lender early February and just got the unathorized flood insurance removed from my escrow early April. It took a lot of persistance and learning the FEMA and flood legal stuff. I have accumulated everything, all the paperwork. email me at regan.chantal@yahoo.com for a pdf of all those documents. My lender is Countrywide. I kept the names of everyone and especially the department that decides if we are in a flood zone or not, and the refund department. When you call the main number they are not allowed to transfer you or give you the numbers of those departments. After 2 months of dealing with them ... they did not hide that from me.
I still have trouble with escow. My payment went up. They told me that my escrow was revised as I did not have to have flood insurance, but unfortunately they had to win. I have to pay the higher payment and they apply part of my payment to escrow. They had to win ... now my payments are not decreasing my principal right away.
