Only good BBQ in Maricopa is what people cook on their own grills. I'd have to say that the closest 'Good' BBQ would be Famous Daves next to the Chandler Mall. Nothing local is worth the money you'd spend.

Romy's is good, though I don't know for sure if they are still up and running. Last I knew he was only open on the weekends.

Here is an old thread about it:

Romys is just BBQ (but not BAD BBQ). Nothing too special about it. Kind of pricey for what you get. Heard he uses KC sauce straight from the bottle?

Yup, it's KC sauce. Didn't bother me too much though, I just ate it without the sauce.
Some people will argue that "real bbq" doesn't even use sauce...

I am a true BBQ junkie, and have just moved here from GA.  I have to say I have been to many joints here in PHX.  I can give you a pretty decent rundown.

Famous Dave's - Good BBQ for a chain restaurant, large portions and decent sauce

Honeybear's in PHX - They won numerous awards and their sauce is a Mop sauce and has some kick.  Their sauce is great IMHO, but the meat lacks that real smokey flavor

Stacy's (The Purple Dive)  - I have sent Food Network a memo to add this join to their Diners, Drive-ins and Dives Show.  Now Stacy knows BBQ.  Portions are large, good ketchup based sauce.  1.99 for a side of Catfish w/ homemade Tarter sauce.  Best of all its the only BBQ joint that serves the required after dinner portion of Banana Pudding.  Also after 3pm he makes the most amazing fried chicken.  Tops in the area.

Everyplace else I have been has been a let down or was not what I was looking for.

Last but not least I forgot, my homemade pulled pork is better than all 3 places.  But I save that just for me.

The South prides itself in "Pork" BBQ.....other places in "Beef"....BUT, only Kansas City BBQ knows how to do both. The ownership of Dillons, in Glendale, is from Kansas City, and probably the best "overall" BBQ in the greater Phoenix area. By the way.......if you go try the "deep fried dill pickle chunks"......uuuummmmmm gooooood......to whet your hunger pains for what's to come...

Making me hungry......

I used to love eating at Hap's BBQ, but then I stopped by their place on Indian School. Everything was going fine until some cockroaches decided to join me at the table for lunch... The little ones, not the big sewer roaches.

Romys is actually really good, very down to the basics though. He is also only on the weekends and once the meat is gone, the closed sign goes up. I have stopped by there at 2pm and he was closed. I did luck out once and got a rack at 5pm though.

Just last Saturday, I happened upon Romy's Ribs.  And I must say that these are the BEST ribs I have ever had in my entire life.  I've only tried his pork ribs, though.  He sells baby backs, beef ribs, pulled pork, and bbq chicken as well.  He's only open on Saturdays, only accepts cash and I think he's only there from 12 - 5.  He's located right by the plaza with the dollar store and the motor vehicle place, accross from the library.

I am not exaggerating in any way at all when I say that the man's ribs were the best I've ever had.  I could not stop talking about them, even like 3 days afterwards.  The week that you have to wait to get some more...man, it seems like the longest week possible.  These ribs alone are worth a trip there, and I plan on trying his chicken today.  My whole family was trying to eat their fingers when they had some Romy's.  I strongly recommend this place.  The pricing is about what you'd expect to pay.  And the owner and his staff are down to earth, genuinely friendly people.

Yeah they are a nice family. The guy has a great product, I am hoping he keeps it as it is, if he gets a resturant he will loose his MoJo.

Maybe he would do well opening a Kiosk in Frys, sorta like the Sushi guy does in there.

Everyone at work raves about this place..

It's good.. but not even in my top 10...

Personally, I think it's highly overrated..

I'll take Romy's over them.. I'm more of a "rub" guy than I am a "sauce" guy..

Now.. we just need a local chicken & waffles place.. mmmmmm..
