So, there hasn't been much talk about the aiport/airpark that is supposed to be coming from Maricopa. For those who may have forgotten: http://www.copanews.com/?c=135&a=1557 Take note that the article is dated 1/25. "Once the city council decided on a site, which could be within the next 30 to 60 days" So, we are passed the 60 day mark and there hasn't been anything published about the progress of this project. Will this airport become another Mountainside. Granted, I know an airport is a MUCH larger project than a gym, but the lack of any news being published concerns me. Maricopa needs this kind of development. Also, it would be nice to see a college, either an extension campus of UoA or ASU. Something that will bring livable wages jobs to Maricopa. A college could bring a research & development park, etc. And of course, other businesses will follow, again, businesses that provide a livable wage jobs. So, has anyone heard anything more on the airport? Morfessis, if you are reading this, do you know...the article states: "Bringing in an airport was my idea"...so, what is the status of your idea?

maricopa_jjn, The site was voted on and approved. It will be at the Estrella sailport on hwy 238. The council approved the airport consultants to continue onto the next phase of the project which I believe is financial. Thats the last I heard.

maybe i'm just ignorent, but why do we need an airport? What benefits will it give me and my neighbors? I personally think we should focus on a community center much like Pecos park in town. I believe a majority of residents would much rather have a dog park, skate park, and other public ammenities before an airport. I'd love to hear the rational. Maybe I am wrong?

studglove, IMHO, an airport will evolve into an airpark (HOPEFULLY) which will bring jobs that have livable wages. With that more businesses will come to the Copa, thus bringing more tax revenue to the city only helping us to grow and become better. A city center would be a cost center, not a profit center...bring the airport/park and the businesses then you can get your community center, and a much, much better one at that.

I kinda understand where you are going but what about the airport thats off the maricopa/casa grande highway? There aren't too many jobs created by that or from the one thats off the 85. I just don't see why this would be different. There is no reason for people to fly out here. I'm not an expert in this stuff so I could be way wrong.

compare it to Scottsadale airpark, which is MAXED out of space hundreds of business, landing and takeoffs, flight training, people flying for special events. Many better paying jobs, and maybe even a small air service, similiar to williams gateway.

There are no real reasons for failure, only excuses
