This story is horrific to me.  This THUG, a DRUNK DRIVER, gets stopped on a bridge in San Diego and a K-9 Officer latches on to the A$$hole.  Our K-9 Officer has him by the arm and the Bastard jumps, taking our K-9 officer with him and he lives???? and our K-9 Officer dies????  Channel 10 news says Byron will be charged with Drunk Driving, evading Police and "hurting the dog"  I just hope that John Hook meant to say Murder of a Police Officer.   K-9 dogs are BONAFIED POLICE OFFICERS as far as I know; for at the airport the K-9 cops wear badges. and this THUG killed him.  He needs to fry

I agree Granny!

A police K-9 is just as much an officer as his handler...if not more!

It is just a shame the guy didn't die as well!

Don't argue with an idiot; people watching may not be able to tell the difference.

GoinCrazy, I wanted to respond to you early this morning but I was running late for work.  I just want you (and anyone else that CARES ) to know that I am going to email Channel 10 and see if I can get more info on this story.  I have to know if this Thug is gonna get away with this.

When I get passionate about something, It is hard for me to let go.

This story actually happened a few months ago. Unfortunately, if you kill a police dog you will only get charged with animal cruelty or something to that affect. I agree 100% that they should charge anyone who intentionally kills a police dog with murder of a police officer. As far as the story goes, the offender (or THUG as you put it) was pulled over and did jump off the Coronado Bridge in San Diego. Here is the link to nbcsandiego.com that tells you more of the story.

Actually in AZ I think the charges are no diffirent than if it was a human officer. I googled around and could find the specific law, it is late though.

Okay, don't get all puffed up now. I just watched this video several times and have a couple of observations/questions. 1) Why was the Oceanside police K-9 officer still in pursuit all the way down in San Diego? 2) Why was the K-9 released as soon as the guy climbed out of his vehicle at the top of a bridge where there is no pedestrian wall? This guy and the dog fell over a 3 foot railing.
I am not supporting the jumper in any way. I repeat, I am not supporting the jumper in any way. However, I believe the police used VERY poor judgement in releasing Stryker when they did. I also doubt that the jumper held the dog out over the edge. Watch the footage and you'll see that the guy got out of his truck, Stryker was immediately released, grabbed the guy and they fell. The guy got back up and they fell/jumped off the side of the bridge. This whole thing takes maybe 10 seconds. I just don't understand why they released the dog when the guy was surrounded by cops at the top of a bridge. reports say nothing about any weapons...

because they are cops, and do whatever they please.
