Anyone else paying for flood insurance? were you able to get it removed? I was told by the city we should not be. I have yet to see proof but was hoping someone has dealt with this.

We live in the meadows. In the Richmond homes. We do not have flood insurance nor were ever informed that we needed it. Our neighbors down the street were told they needed it by their lender (CW) who happens to own the insurer (Balboa). They had it removed by sending both a copy of the revised fema map showing that we are not in a flood zone.

We also have a home in the Meadows. When we purchased our home in 2005 we did not need flood insurance, our insurance carrier was in contact with the city and this area is not zoned for flooding.

The meadows was originally built on a flood plain. FEMA has since fixed the issue and lenders no longer require home owners to carry flood insurance. We had to pay it upon purchase of the home however a few months after we moved in, we received the paperwork from FEMA which allowed us to receive a refund. We do carry flood insurance though for precautionary measures. Its not nearly as expensive as it was when we were considered a flood plain and lets face it, you never know when disaester might strike, better safe than sorry if you can.
