They are hanging out further west. There are 2 springs located closer to estrella peaks they often stay near. When one or both of those dries out they tend to head west closer to 347.

Also, the indians, who own them, harvest them from time to time to keep their numbers sustainable (among other reasons).

So they are on the -west- side of 347? I always saw them on the east side... Do they change sides or something?

seams like they like the shade of the bridge during the summer, and cross under there to where they want to go. I've seen them on both sides.

Haven't seen them yet... They should be out in another month near the 347

Just doing it one day at a time. Change is good and it should be looked upon as an improvment! not a problem.

I saw a pickup stopped on the bridge dropping a bale of alfalfa over the bridge going northbound.  This was last summer.  When I see the horses this summer I think I will do the same.  There used to be a roundup every summer, and I think it was by the BLM.  The horses were adopted out.  We adopted a Mustang, and she was pregnant.  Her foul turned out to be the best horse we ever owned.  We had to put him down when he foundered (sp) at the age of 12.  But, yes, the horses will be back. Sinbad is right on with the time frame. I just wish we had gotten another rainfall to boost the vegetation growth.

I saw two about a month ago closer to I-10 and 347 on the east side. White one and then the other was brown. But have not seen anymore lately.

A few years ago I read an article in the Ahwatukee paper that Gila River sells some of the horses to Japan which slaughters them for their meat.

Here is the link...the only one I could find now. Unfortunately the link to the AZ Republic article is not working. Looks like the BLM sells some of the horses to the tribes and then the tribes slaughter the horses. (some but not all of the horses)

It's ironic that we haven't seen the horses for a while and now Rawhide has an all you can eat "steak" special for $7.99. hehehe
