Hello All:

I have gotten some information about starting a block watch. I spoke with Officer Judd with MPD. He forwarded me some information and their requirements on organizing a block watch.

The information packet he emailed me is mostly on how to protect your home and family. If you would like a copy I will gladly email a copy to you.

Here are the requirements:

The block watch area can be any size, he recommends the smaller, the better. (I have some thoughts on this below).

You must have 50% participation within the area of the block watch.

You must have 50% attend a bi-yearly meeting for the block watch.

You must designate a block watch captain that will organize everything and also attend meetings put on by the police department for block watch captains from around the city.

HERE IS WHAT I NEED FROM EVERYONE THAT IS INTERESTED.

Please email or PM me with your interest and your address. I need to determine what area of Senita we can set this up for.

Also please email your thoughts about the following ideas.

I am open to us establishing many different sub-block watches. This might be better and more homeowners might have an interest if the areas are smaller. We can try to divide up Senita into different areas, with a sub-captain for each. Then all sub-captains can met and determine a Senita captain. I guess this will be determined based on the participation we can get.

If no one has any objections, I will be the initial block watch captain. If we can get everything put together by February 10th, we can have an election or determine in some fashion at that time who the captain or captains will be for 2008.

If there is enough interest, I will get some flyer's together and go door to door and see who we can get signed up.

Thank you!

Hey everyone. I have only gotten a handful of responses so far. I know not everyone is on this forum all the time. If you have an interest of being a part of the block part, or would like more info, please send me at least a quick email of your interest, and maybe some general area of which part of Senita you live in.

Thanks in advance for your response.

Most houses around me are vacant in phase 1 so I have to be my own block watch

I do think it is a great idea for people with neighbors. Good luck.

reagdog, if you would like to participate, you are still more than welcome. You might not have any neighbors right now, but at some point that will change. I have gotten emails from some who aren't currently living in the homes, but support block watch.

It might be a good way to bring some of the non-active homeowners into the mix and get them with some interest in something a lot of them appear to currently have no interest. I will keep you updated.

I have been getting all of the messages. Thank you all for the responses. It is good to see the interest starting to pick up. I am putting together where everyone lives that has an interest. Then I will get flyers together to post around on mailboxes, and everyone can pick up some to pass around to the neighbors in their areas. I can't make over a thousand copies though!!!

Thanks again for the responses. I really appreciate it.

I was unable to make the block party this month. Is there any update on the block watch?
I really want to get involved.

I am going to work on this some this week, since I finally have some extra time. I will email everyone when I get some more info.

I couldn't make it to the HOA meeting. I heard there is going to be a Block Watch comittee formed? If this is true, can someone tell me who is involved so I can get with them to coordinate. Thanks!

There really isn't a way to do a full Senita block watch because of the MPD requirement of 50% participation. The best option is to break into smaller groups, your street or small groups of homes and start a block watch. I have some info from the police department if anyone would like me to forward on to them. I am going to focus on the group of houses closest to mine, and once started, continue to try and expand from our corner of Senita a few houses at a time.
