I can't believe no one replied or remarked on this article as it is a very astute observation on religon today.

My husband and I were raised in Protestant churches, but have no religious affialtion today and do not attend any church.  Probably because we have no children.  Most couples at  least want their children to have some exposure to religion and then let them figure out for themselves when they are older if it is something they want to continiue.

As for myself, I am a spiritual person, but long ago quit going to any church (organized religion) because of the hypocristy and ridicules beliefs most of these church's cling to.  They do not want me to have my own sense of conscience, but want to dictate what it should be.  No  thanks!

I was raised in Roman catholic household. I didn't have any appreciatiation for it however. It felt more like a "chore" to me than anything else. We didn't really go to church much anyway. My appreciation for religion in general came about when I saw things from a different perspective.

I went to different churches. I had "Bible study" with anyone who cared. I read and read.

I consider myself a "spiritual" person. But, I see God in much differently now. Seeing different demonitions of religions in action and learning the history of humans with religion HAS given me greater sense of appreciation for religion, all religions.

Now, I can see the Word of God coming out when I do go to mass. I may not feel right with certain traditions, but I can hear God speaking to me from anywhere and anyone. To me, it doesn't matter what religious faith one holds or doesn't hold, I do my best to keep an open mind and heart.

You may remember this from the original 85239:

The rich ruleth over the poor and the borrower is servant to the lender.

As in many aspects of their lives, many Americans today want everything their way. Whether it is a job, marriage, or a church, many of us will abandon ship rather than work to set thing right. It is much easier to move on rather than make the effort.

I tend to believe that it's because people think their prayers will be answered(ALL THE TIME).
Unaswered prayers can sometimes lead to discouragement.

There's no such thing as an unanswered prayer. The answer just isn't "yes" it is a "no" or "not yet".

I read the article when it was 1st posted. I tend to agree with hastings.

I completely agree with you. Just because you didn't get the answer you wanted doesn't mean your prayer wasn't answered.

I am curious, as anti-religion and anti-faith as you are, why do you haunt a site devoted to religion? Do you get some kind of perverse gratification by ridiculing and denigrating people of faith? If this is so you may want to do some thinking about what that tells you about yourself.

I am anti-religion, but pro-faith.  I don't understand how people can support the huge corporate mega churches.  I am here to try and understand what I do not.

From your trolling hateful posts, one would think you are anti-faith of any kind.

Corruption is everywhere that is for sure, but there are still lots of good churches out there.
