Alert | | Hi, I looked into the shuttle as well and found it out of my budget. I then thought of offering to drive in exchange for gas money, but after more thought I couldn't offer that at a resonable rate either. The only hope I have is that I heard a request was made for a bus to be sent out here to transport the kids. The answer should be available this week. I'll post when I know.

Alert | | I MAY be able to drive in next year. If we get into another (charter) school, then we will have to decide which school to attend. If my child decides to go to MP, I will drive there every morning. I will know more in two weeks.

Alert | | Sounds like you are waiting to hear on the same charter school that we are and MP is the back-up. Which makes me think, that we can't be the only ones. I would really like to know if there is any one out there who would like to share their opinion on Horizon charter school?

Alert | We are waiting to hear from Horizon and another charter in Phoenix. I am also waiting to hear from MP to see if we are in because we registered so late.
According to MP, it is ridiculous for us to think there will be a bus. Like all other schools, they have had to make cuts, and sending a bus to us, when children go there from all over the east valley, would not be financially responsible.
I work in Phoenix, so I have to go in every day anyway.

Alert | u do realize the kyrene district pulls 900 kids from the copa between their middle schools and elementary schools, right? also, kyrene does not bus ANY of their other schools except Lagos, Akimel&Pueblo and where they do have bus routes, its only for MARICOPA. what does that tell you about how they feel about Maricopa kids going to their district?. let me add, a parent with a child attending akimel this yr was sent a letter by MP&or TUHD saying they are considering a bus route out here. u think kyrene and TUHD dont know how dissatisfied parents are out here with the options presented to them? i believe they do indeed have an ear to the ground and do know that while diesel prices are in fact expensive for districts, the amount of kids TUHD could pull from the copa could more than make up for the price of gas. u do realize that awhatukee&tempe/chandler&other east valley high schools need to replenish their student bases as A) kids graduate B) families move away etc etc so they are looking for ways to keep schools open and in bringing kids from the copa to their schools, they vastly increase their chances of doing so via state $$$ they recieve for kids enrolled&attending their schools. more kids attending kyrene&TUHD equeals more state $$$ for the districts

Alert | | My son takes the shuttle with Maricopa Stagecoach shuttle. It costs around $100 -$140 per month, depending on how many days the kids are in school. It is reliavble, clean, and the people are very good to the kids and available to the parents. I also drive into Phoenix for work but can't leave to bring my kid home at 2:30. The shutlle is a great service for me and the other parents who aren't available each day to take their kids back and forth. It there was enough interest, and more kids, perhaps the fee could be negotiated. It is extremely unlikely that Tempe Union School District will provide a bus service. Mt. Pte. has open enrolllment and kids come from many different areas of the valley and there is no bus service for any one out of district. The kids come to the school, the school does not need to provide bus service to attract students. I am not trying to push the shuttle on anyone, but I think it is a good service for a fair price. I also heard that there is a shuttle to Horizon but don't know any details.

Alert | The fees I stated are round trip. for the month By the way, in April there are no days off so it is more than any other month-around $160 I think. I still think it is a good price for the service. It was less in Dec, Jan, Feb and March. They pick up where the kids are, it is negotiable. They prefer to have two or more kids at one pick up location, but they work with the riders they have and where they live. The p/u and drop off for us is about a block away, near Santa Rosa school. Some of the kids are in the Villages and Senita, so they have a few spots there. It is not like a bus route where the stops are set, the shuttle tries to accomodate the kids locations.

Alert | | we have been on this topic for a year now and it would be best to find a carpool you can work out. we started with the old shutle that was $6.75 when they left Maricopa the Stagecoach took over. They are considerably more but don't have or didn't have enough room for more kids. Mt. Pointe alone this year has approx 150 kids from Maricopa. They don't have transportation because like someone else said then they would have to offer for all open enrollment exceptions. Plus why should they accomodate us when we need them. Maricopa has been figuring out for years how to get their kids to Mt Pointe so I wouldn't hold my breath on the bus. Definately keep posting you will get a carpool going. There are lots of people going that way. Keep posting if you find anything new. Good Luck!

Alert | I wasn't stating my opinion riki - I was just stating what the person at Mountain Pointe told me. She said it was a rumor that just was never going to go away and sounded tired of the question. In any case, I found a friend who might be able to help me out with the return home issue. Plus, if I get off earlier in the day, I heard my daughter may be able to stay at the library and she enrolled into a lot of after school clubs. As another option, her father might be able to pick her up and I can pick her up at his house on my way home. So, if we decide to go to MP, there are options for us. I will post what we decide most definitely by the 18th.
Horizon is NOT so far away from MP. Some parents might want to consider a dual after-school pick-up. ??????
